This week your Director of Music joins thousands of musicians, liturgists, priests, and bishops in Grand Rapids for the National Association of Pastoral Musicians annual convention. This week is chock-full of plenum addresses, breakout sessions, concerts, liturgies, music, and lots of fellowship with friends from across the country.
What is NPM you might ask? It is an organization founded in the midst of post-Vatican II reforms embracing the sung liturgy - singing the Mass, rather than singing at Mass. Founded by Rev. Virgil Funk in the 1970s, NPM offers educational conventions and intensives, bulletin resources, and liturgical and music resources for the liturgy today.
The NPM Mission Statement:
The National Association of Pastoral Musicians fosters the art of musical liturgy. The members of NPM serve the Catholic Church in the United States as musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of prayer.
