Here at Saint Agnes we are proud to play at every liturgy our Rodgers hybrid (pipe and digital combination) organ. As part of its regular maintenance, the pipes are tuned twice a year (once in the spring, after the AC has been on; and once in the fall/winter, after the heat has been on regularly) around Christmas and Easter. At one of these routine visits we had asked the technicians to check out a "dead" note - that is a pipe that when its corresponding key is pressed at the console doesn't play or sound. The culprit is a dead magnet which receives the electronic signal sent when the key is pressed and would allow the air to flow into the pipe producing the desired pitch. Today the organ technicians from R.A. Daffer Church Organs, the company who installed and maintains our instrument, is here to fix this. A simple magnet requires a crew of four guys, scaffolding, various tools, a ladder and patience.
