Good Friday is the only day in the year when Catholics don't celebrate Mass. The Church reflects on Christ's death on the cross. The Solemn Liturgy we celebrate today is a Liturgy of the Word, the Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion (consecrated during the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday). This liturgy begins and ends in silence - again, the only time in the year the Church does this. |
